Congressman To Discusses Future of Deficient Stearns County Bridge

Tom Emmer s Office (KNSI) –  A U.S. Congressman will visit a Stearns County bridge listed as deficient that spans the Sauk River. Sixth District Representative Tom Emmer will be at Bridge 6819, along County State Aid Highway 75 in Waite Park, on Wednesday to talk about a project to replace the bridge. Emmer will be joined by Stearns County Administrator Micheal Williams and County Engineer Jodi Teich, Commissioner Steve Notch, Commissioner Joe Perske, and possibly Mayor Rick Miller. The bridge was built in 1954, and officials say portions of the bridge have decayed beyond what can be fixed with minor repairs. According to Emmer’s office, the bridge has on average 23,400 people cross it a day.

The city is born, but mistakes were made; can we regroup?

The city is born, but mistakes were made; can we regroup? Anne Buckvold The arrival of I-94 changed everything. “Do you accept the challenge of development? Or let someone else do it?” These thoughts ran through Jerry Weyren’s head as he watched the 460-acre family farm take its first beating. As the highway department surveyed the west end of the farm, Jerry surveyed that whole situation. Realizing he could continue in agriculture or accept the challenge, he decided to get things organized. “I almost got run out of the building! They wanted to know who that young punk was that wanted to set up a zoning ordinance in St. Cloud Township.” Jerry didn’t gain township support in 1957, but he did that following year. Tony Volkman, an older gentleman, had sway with the council. As two members began to balk at Jerry’s request, Tony broke in: “This young man knows what he’s talking about, you should listen to him.”
