The Mineral Wells, continued. In the previous item, about the “famed” Mineral Wells, in January 1867 the resort was listed for sale. The item below may shed light on just why it was being sold.

Ed. Times. Ever since I have been in this State I have had a desire to visit the “Mineral Wells,” this side of Parkersburg. A friend, with whom I was in company and myself, looked in vain for an advertisement of this watering place in your paper, to ascertain whether the house was open. [Having found none,] we, concluded to take the chances, as the place lies in sight of the road on which we intended making our journey homeward. We found the house open, but no guests.

Over the course of this offseason, FanGraphs is compiling a crowdsourced ranking of our readers’ favorite broadcasts. Last month, we announced the results of the crowdsourced vote on TV broadcasts. Now we are once again asking for your help, this time for each team’s radio broadcast.
The radio broadcasts will follow the same general format as our earlier TV broadcast surveys. When you peruse the section for your team or teams of choice, you will find a link to a poll. That poll covers three categories, as well as an overall ranking. In addition, there is a separate space for any additional comments you would like to make. The eventual ranking of radio teams will be quantitative, but I will include relevant comments from this section in my writing of those rankings.

Russian Doll). There are a ton of names in cameo roles (Ellie Kemper, Andrew Rannells and Lena Dunham to name but a few), all enlisted in what could have been a smart rethink of those sclerotic comedy tropes: the lookalike-role-swap and the ambitious-understudy-who eclipses-the-star.
Alas, it is a weirdly inert, obstinately unfunny work, starting from the opening montage of unconvincing pratfalls by Barrymore right through to the ironic comeuppance conclusion visible from outer space. It s not so much that the end result crosses a line somewhere in taste in fact, it could do with more vulgarity or that the basic premise is entirely awful.
