Billy Joe Saunders suffered a severe eye injury in his loss to Canelo Alvarez and his career is now in jeopardy, according to a recent report.
On Saturday night, Saunders and Alvarez took one step closer to unifying the 168-pound division. It was a massive fight and early on, Saunders had success. Yet, as the fight wore on, Alvarez started to go to the body and then landed a beautifully timed uppercut that landed flush on the eye of Saunders.
Immediately, Saunders’ eye started to swell and in between the eighth and ninth round, his corner called the fight. It appeared that Saunders broke his orbital and after the fight, he was rushed to the hospital and had surgery.

Billy Joe Saunders has channeled his inner Arnold Schwarzenegger in declaring “I’ll be back” after a dispiriting defeat at the hands of Canelo Alvarez this past weekend at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, Texas.
The 31-year-old suffered a broken eye socket and broken cheekbones during the contest but has subsequently undergone an operation. Mark Tibbs had pulled out his charge at the end of the eighth contest with Saunders’ face looking increasingly disfigured at the hands of the merciless Mexican.
Alvarez had eased his way into the contest after some opening rounds in which Saunders was seeing success. In truth, you get the feeling that whilst the Brit did take a handful of rounds, it was mainly due to the patience of Canelo Alvarez who knew he could turn the tide of the contest in an instant.

THE Euros is not the only international competition on the horizon. There is also the Copa America, co-hosted by Argentina and Colombia, which is due to take place between June 13th and July 10th.
Like the Euros, it was put back from last year after the coronavirus pandemic struck. And with the situation in South America especially bad, the pandemic is still a problem.
