Monroe County Legislature President Joe Carbone. Monroe County restaurants would not have to pay the county’s food service establishment fee in 2021 if a budget amendment proposed by the Monroe County Legislature’s Republican Majority passes. At a news conference Thursday, Legislature President Joe Carbone and Majority Leader Steve Brew said waiving the fees would provide critical aid to restaurants that were dealt a financial blow by the COVID-19 pandemic. “The food service industry has been the most impacted by COVID-19, and unfair government service fees are exasperating this problem,” Carbone said. But the fees in question, which the county charges for permits to operate food service establishments, are relatively small. In 2020, a restaurant with a seating capacity of 51 people or more had to pay a $370 fee. Restaurants with seating for 25 to 50 were assessed $230, and establishments with seating for fewer than 25 had to pay $170.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WHEC) President of the Monroe County Legislature Joe Carbone and his Republican colleagues are calling on Gov. Andrew Cuomo to give counties the responsibility of distributing the COVID-19 vaccine.
In a news briefing Tuesday, Carbone says he called on the governor to make the change after he says he received countless reports of miscommunication between state and vaccine distribution locations, as well as complaints of scheduling hotline confusion, and many sites not having enough doses to give. Unfortunately, the state s rigid and heavy-handed management of vaccine distribution has made it impossible for us to all move in the same direction, Carbone said. Bigger government and more government is always never the answer when it comes to solving our most challenging issues.

Hundreds of people scattered chaotically in the early-morning darkness. Trying to escape a volley of gunfire, the young people gathered for a backyard party dispersed in countless different directions.
Ultimately, two 19-year-old Rochester residents were killed, 14 more were struck by gunfire, and police were left to sift through a massive and confusing scene. As they tried to get people to safety, they also had to gather others for interviews. What happened just after 1 a.m. on Sept. 19 in the 200 block of Pennsylvania Avenue is still under investigation. Police haven t made any arrests in the largest shooting in recent memory.
