COLUMBUS, Ohio â The family of a 15-year-old girl says the teenager was reportedly shot and killed by a Columbus police officer Tuesday afternoon.
In a tweet, Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther confirmed a young woman was shot and killed during an officer-involved shooting, but Ginther did not give her age. This afternoon a young woman tragically lost her life. We do not know all of the details, Ginther said in a tweet. Ginther added that police were wearing bodycams, and they are working to review it as soon as possible.
IRONTON â Lawrence County officials gave pay raises April 6 to about 75 emergency medical services ambulance personnel, according to Chris Kline, county administrator.
Emergency medical technicians will get a 30-cent per hour pay increase, advanced emergency medical personnel will get a 60-cent per hour increase, and paramedics will get a $1.60 per hour rate increase, according to Kline.
The raises were approved in a closed executive session during a board meeting last Tuesday. The increase was made retroactive to March 21.
âThey will see it on their paychecks Friday,â said Commission President DeAnna Holliday last week.
âThe importance of our ambulance service depends on the level of service,â Holliday said. âWe want them to know they are valued and are important. Their jobs can save lives.â
WILGUS, Ohio â The Lawrence County Board of Commissioners has been able to expand broadband services to the Wilgus area, according to Commission President DeAnna Holliday.
The board and the Lawrence Economic Development Corp. have been working to bring high-speed internet for at least a year, Holliday said.
JB Nets, a Gallia County company, has been given a lease to use a tower in the Wilgus to extend broadband services, she said.
Officials currently are working on ways to expand broadband to the Kitts Hill and Waterloo areas, Holliday said.
During the recent COVID-19 pandemic, it was apparent many school age children within the communities would be without quality internet service, thus making it difficult to perform at home learning, Holliday said.
The appointments are through the November general election.
If they want to remain on council, they will have to file as candidates.
This is the year candidates for city and village council, school board and trustees are on the ballot, according to election officials.
Kenneth Wolfe and Paul Hart are the only council members not facing election this year. That leaves four seats open in the November general election.
The filing deadline to run for office this fall is Aug. 9.
Meanwhile, Cole Webb already has filed for re-election to a four-year term as Union Township trustee, according to records in the county board of elections.
