Players spent the day off the ice to volunteer and serve healthcare workers. Willie Corrin said those risking their lives to keep others healthy deserve appreciation and recognition for what they do. “We want to give back to the community, especially our first responders here giving vaccinations out and stuff like that,” Corrin said. “It’s great what they’re doing and we’re just here to help them out as much as we can.”

Staff report A Lawrence man was taken to a hospital for an injury he suffered Thursday morning in a car wreck on Kansas Highway 10. The man, Jason Wiegert, 37, was taken to Overland Park Regional Medical Center for a “suspected serious injury,” according to the Kansas Highway Patrol crash log. The wreck occurred around 7:40 a.m. near the intersection of K-10 and East 1900 Road, just east of Lawrence. According to the crash log, Wiegert was heading eastbound on the highway but crossed the median and westbound traffic, then crashed into a light pole in the ditch north of the highway. No further details were available Thursday.
