Government is moving ahead with plans to provide housing solutions in low income housing.
Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, who said Government was set to have a silent revolution in housing, also explained that Barbadians earning between BDS$2000 and $4000 per month, will also have access to affordable housing.
Mottley said in the next few months, the Government would like to announce to Barbadians that plans are being rolled out to make affordable houses, as low as BDS$90 000, available on the market.
“There is a category of persons in this country who does not earn BDS$2000 easily, or even if they do, does not earn it in a sustained way such that the bank or the credit union is going to take comfort in giving them a mortgage.
Lone Opposition MP attacks constituent assistance
Article by May 5, 2021
Leader of the Opposition Bishop Joseph Atherley has knocked a stipend to parliamentarians to assist constituents as a “joke” and has called for a greater amount to be allocated for the grants given the current economic climate.
Atherley made the comments in the House of Assembly as MPs paid tribute to their late former colleague, Joseph Edghill, who represented Christ Church West Central during the Owen Arthur administration from 1994 to 2008.
He said: “The monthly parliamentary allocation we get to help us represent our constituents is a joke! It is gone before it comes, and especially in these times, coming off more than a decade of bad economic performance, on the heels of COVID, and with a virtual shut down of the tourism industry; it is tough out there!”

THE VICE-CHANCELLOR’S FORUM ROYALTY, RACISM, REPUBLICANISM & REPARATION: Preparing for the 60th Anniversary of Nationhood in the CARICOM Region
Spread the love
Dorbrene E. O’Marde, Chairperson ABRSC
I thank The UWI and the Centre for Reparation Research for affording me this opportunity to share ideas in this – the Vice-Chancellor’s Forum. I send very special regards to VC Prof Sir Hilary Beckles at this time and I am sure you all know why. We have your back Sir!
I also wish to let the CRR know that I have observed their love affair with the letter ‘R’ – in their acronym and also in the subject of this discussion. I hope they allow me to add another ‘R’ – regionalism in my presentation. I isolate from the topic – two Rs – Republicanism and Reparations. I think if we deal with reparations we are automatically dealing with both Royalty and Racism – in a way.
