EAST COUNTY
A 58-year-old man allegedly fired a shotgun toward sheriff’s deputies Sunday morning in East County, hitting a nearby home but not causing any injuries, authorities said.
Deputies later arrested the man, and during a search of his property discovered 32 guns, about 50,000 rounds of ammunition and a butane hash oil extraction lab, according to sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Katra from the department’s Alpine substation.
The incident began around 6:30 a.m. Sunday when deputies were sent to Valle De Paz Road off Hawley Road a little north of Olde Highway 80 and Interstate 8 for reports of a man “acting erratically and holding a rifle,” Katra said in a news release.
