GOP Senate passes tax bill with no new taxes

Created: April 28, 2021 06:43 PM The biennial battle over the budget at the Minnesota State Capitol will heat up over the next 19 days as lawmakers try to beat the clock by the May 17 session deadline. We re not raising taxes at the end of a pandemic on anyone, Republican Senate Majority Leader Paul Gazelka said at the end of a nearly five-hour debate over the tax bill. The bill includes no new taxes but does include partial tax exemptions for pandemic unemployment payments and full tax exemptions for businesses that received Paycheck Protection Plan loans. The exemption is available with no cap on the amount of the loan received.

(KEYC) The cities of Mankato and North Mankato remind residents of their upcoming annual clean-ups, a chance to get rid of unwanted items for free. Both services this year are in a self-unloading, drop-off fashion. For the month of May, residents can drop items at Public Works Center, 501 S. Victory Drive. Each resident will receive a color-coded postcard in the mail that identifies their scheduled drop off-dates. Cards or proof of residency must be brought to the drop-off that day. There will also be a secure drug drop-off on site.
