7 Lane County nonprofit arts organizations receive Arts Build Communities grants Register-Guard The Oregon Arts Commission awarded $180,000 to 40 projects through its 2021 Arts Build Communities grant program. The program targets underserved Oregon audiences by using the arts to address community needs through geographic impact and arts access.   “Local citizens employ creative thinking and collective response to identify a local need and provide an arts-based solution,” Arts Commission Vice Chair and lead panelist Jenny Green said in a statement. For instance, Eugene schools haven t maintained an instrument program for many years. For the past 20 years, though, Eugene-Springfield Youth Orchestras has provided a foundation for youngsters through its String Academy 1. Its $5,874 ABC Grant will help provide free and minimal-cost online beginning strings instruction for 125 Eugene third, fourth and fifth graders, according to ESYO executive director Holly Spencer.

A grant over $3,500 came locally to the Ashland High Arts Advocates. The funding will support arts mentoring to low-income students grades 6-12 in the Ashland area. The Oregon Arts Commission says the Arts Builds Communities program targets broad geographic impact along with arts access for under-served audiences in Oregon. It says the grants are made possible through a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. NBC5 News reporter Mariah Mills is a Medford native. Artists receive more than $1 million in relief grants Six East Multnomah County artists awarded financial support to help with pandemic recovery Oregon artists across the state are getting relief grants to help offset the loss in finances this past year during the COVID-19 pandemic. In total, 646 artists received a portion of $1.25 million through an Artist Relief Program created by the Oregon Arts Commission in partnership with Oregon Community Foundation and the James F. and Marion L. Miller Foundation. Artists are the creative core of our communities and help define who we are they inspire us to innovate, to learn and grow, said Brian Rogers, executive director of the Oregon Arts Commission. We are thankful to be able to provide support as our artists continue to suffer great losses due to the pandemic.
