The Government has revealed how it will make good a £17bn shortfall in civil servants pensions but the solution has drawn criticism as it leaves three million workers unsure of their retirement income for decades to come.
Ministers were forced to offer more generous pensions to public sector workers after an avoidable mistake meant it was found guilty of discriminating against younger employees. Workers will now be able to choose between two pension options when they retire. This was after a 2015 change to limit pensions backfired.

There is a glimmer of hope for tens of thousands of British pensioners in Canada who could be in for a huge boost to the state pension after decades of missing out.
Across the world, more than 510,000 retirees continue to be denied their state pension in full, with the level they receive frozen from the time they retired or emigrated. Pensioners in Britain and certain countries, including the EU, receive annual increases under the “triple lock”.
