CAHOOTS supports Right to Rest Act for homeless

CAHOOTS supports ‘Right to Rest Act’ for homeless A crisis counselor with CAHOOTS testified that such restrictions can interfere with their crisis response work. Posted: Apr 15, 2021 11:07 AM Posted By: Jacob Roberts SALEM, Ore. – Eugene-based CAHOOTS is speaking out in support of a new bill that could bring an end to homeless sweeps statewide. House Bill 2367, called the ‘Right to Rest Act,’ is sponsored by Rep. Wlnsvey Campos (D-Aloha). If passed, it would be illegal for homeless people to face civil or criminal penalties for their use of public spaces, as long as they’re not being disruptive. Ahead of public testimony on the bill earlier this week, Campos said current laws discriminate against homeless people who sit, lie down or eat in public.

Retirement age for judges will be raised to 75

The Ministry of Justice is set to raise the retirement age for judges in England and Wales to 75 to combat recruitment issues and mounting legal backlogs. At present, the mandatory retirement age for judges in the two countries is 70, but this would see more than 6,500 magistrates in their 60s leave their roles in the next decade. The rule change has also been prompted by the number of people continuing their careers into their 70s doubling over the last decade, according to the Daily Telegraph. Justice Secretary Robert Buckland told the paper: Raising the retirement age will mean we can retain their invaluable experience, while ensuring that judicial roles are open to a wider pool of talent.
