AS Nigerians were celebrating the release of 344 students of Government Senior Secondary School Kankara, Katsina State, abducted by bandits, gunmen, yesterday, took the insecurity situation in the country a notch higher.
They attacked the convoy of the Emir of Kaura Namoda in Zamfara State, Alhaji Sanusi Muhammadu Asha, killing three police men, and five of his guards and aides.
Reports said after escaping death by whiskers, the emir sought refuge at a police station in neighbouring Katsina State. Those killed during the attack were the emir’s driver, two palace guards, three police escorts and two others.

NINETEEN persons were Sunday reportedly kidnapped by gunmen that invaded Ogu and Tegina communities in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
This came as a pastor with the Evangelical Church Winning All, ECWA, was killed by gunmen in Chukuba, Shiroro Local Government Area of the state, weekend.
It was gathered that six people were abducted from Ogu community while the other 13 were abducted in Tegina town by the gunmen, who invaded communities on motorcycles and reportedly shot sporadically at whatever object on sight.
An impeccable source, Kamal Mamman Wayam, in a telephone conversation, said the bandits stormed residences of some of the villagers and had a free day as they ate and also left with valuables of their victims.

Also, the 100 year old traditional ruler of lsinigbo community, Oba Samuel Fadahunsi has sustained serious injuries and hospitalised after gunmen attacked his palace and set it ablaze.
Reports had it that the gunmen who stormed lsinigbo community in a reprisal attack killed the two persons including the monarch driver and his junior brother.
The driver was said to have been locked inside one of the vehicles met in the palace and set ablazed while the monarchs brother was shot severally but later died at an undisclosed hospital.

A member of the Taraba State House of Assembly representing Nguroje state constituency, Bashir Mohammed, was yesterday kidnapped by gunmen, while a senior official of the Aba South council, Uzoma Nwolu, was also kidnapped in Aba, Abia State.
Mohammed is the minority leader of Taraba Assembly and the House Committee Chairman on Information.
A resident of his area in Jalingo, the state capital, who preferred anonymity, said the gunmen stormed the lawmaker’s residence behind Dr Jalo Eid prayer ground and shot sporadically before whisking him away around 1.30 am.
