Feds Raid UAW Presidents Homes, Conference Center; Charge Ex-Union Official - National Legal & Policy Center

A few weeks ago, U.S. Attorney for Eastern Michigan Matthew Schneider said after the sentencing of a United Auto Workers official, “We’re not done.” He wasn’t kidding. This Wednesday, FBI and IRS agents in four states raided the homes of UAW President Gary Jones (in photo) and former UAW President Dennis Williams, plus the union’s rural Michigan conference retreat/training center and a couple of other sites in search of evidence of corruption. The actions follow the convictions of several UAW and Chrysler officials for their roles in a bribery and embezzlement scheme, and charges announced this August 14 against now-retired union senior official Michael Grimes for receiving the bulk of nearly $2 million in vendor kickbacks. He pleaded not guilty to wire fraud and money laundering on Wednesday.

Moran Iron Works Launches First Amphibious Dredging Machine – MyNorth com

Photo(s) by Moran Iron Works Moran Iron Works and Ann Arbor-based Watermaster NA have partnered in a venture to manufacture the unique Finnish-engineered AMD 5000 amphibious dredging machine in North America.  The Watermaster machine has been sold worldwide for thirty years but not in the U.S.A. due to an import policy called the Jones Act.  Because the AMD 5000 is now made in the U.S., it is a fully Jones Act-compliant vessel and is now available for purchase throughout the country. The two companies came together over a year ago and through a series of leadership meetings in Helsinki Finland and Onaway, MI they agreed to join forces in an OEM partnership.  The first machine is currently being manufactured in Onaway MI.  Watermaster NA anticipates considerable growth as the U.S. marine maintenance industry becomes aware of the unique capabilities of the AMD 5000.
