BYRAM, N.J. â The accused killer of a Fort Drum soldier is in a New Jersey jail on Thursday night, where he will face murder and kidnapping charges.
Pvt. Jamaal Mellish, 23, was picked up from the Oneida County Correctional Facility on Thursday by Sussex County, N.J., law enforcement officials after waiving extradition, according to the jail in Oriskany.
Mellish is accused of abducting Cpl. Hayden A. Harris, 20, in Glen Park and driving him some 300 miles in the corporalâs 2017 Chevrolet Silverado pickup to Byram Township, N.J., after the soldiers had apparently argued about swapping vehicles.
Sgt. Guy Mariani confirmed Mellish was booked and finger printed on Thursday in the Byram Township Police Department. He was then brought to the Morris County Correctional Facility, where heâs being held.

UTICA, N.Y. – A Utica man was charged with rape after allegedly having sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl.
Authorities started investigating on Jan. 5 after receiving a report accusing 34-year-old Ferris Bell of the alleged abused.
Following the investigation, Bell was arrested and charged with third-degree rape, an E felony.
Bell is being held at the Oneida County Correctional Facility in lieu of $7,500 cash bail or $15,000 bond.
An order of protection has been requested on behalf of the victim, who has also been offered services through the county’s Child Advocacy Center.

Clark Mills Man Arrested For Allegedly Raping 14-Year-Old Girl
The Oneida County Child Advocacy Center has arrested another individual for alleged sex crimes against a child.
Officials with the Oneida County Sheriff s Office, working in conjunction with the Child Advocacy Center, announced the arrest of 21-year-old Michael Kulpa and charged him with Rape in the Second Degree.
Investigators with the Child Advocacy Center say Kulpa allegedly had sexual contact with a 14-year-old girl. Sheriff s Investigator Mark Chrysler assigned to the Child Advocacy Center says the investigation began on December 23rd, 2020 when the sexual contact was reported.
After a further investigation into the incident, officials say it was discovered the alleged abuse had been going on for months between August and November of 2020. Following his arrest Kulpa was taken to the Oneida County Correctional Facility and was arraigned. Officials say he is being held on $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bond.
