More than a million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have gone into the arms of LA County residents so far, but the rollout is not reaching all Angelenos equally.
According to county public health officials, about half of those who have received at least one shot of the vaccine are white or Latino, while just 3.5% are Black.
County public health director Barbara Ferrer called those numbers shockingly low, saying they highlight a glaring inadequacy in how the vaccine is distributed.

Conyers said, “African slaves were not compensated for their labor. More unclear, however, is what the effects and remnants of this relationship have had on African Americans and our nation from the time of emancipation through today. I chose the number of the bill, 40, as a symbol of the 40 acres and a mule that the United States initially promised freed slaves.” (Marxism, Reparations and the Black Freedom Struggle,” 2007, p. 20)
The preliminary injunction bars the DA from directing his prosecutors to seek the dismissal of all sentencing enhancements in pending cases for things like using a gun or belonging to a gang. But Gascón is allowed to order prosecutors not to seek most enhancements in future cases.
