Foam Paul Huf Award 2021: jury members announced th Foam Paul Huf Award to be revealed on 11 March The award for talented photographers under 35 years is organised annually by Foam and evaluated by an independent professional jury. The jury for 2021 consists of the following members: Joachim Naudts (chair, artistic coordinator Kunsthal Extra City, Belgium), Osei Bonsu (curator, International Art, United Kingdom), Alessia Glaviano (visual director of Vogue Italia and director of Photo Vogue Festival, Italy), Gwen Lee (co-founder Singapore International Photography Festival and DECK, Singapore) and Alona Pardo (curator Barbican Art Gallery, United Kingdom). Soon, they will start the process to select the winner from the submitted portfolios from the nominated artists.

How an Ashanti King led an army to defeat the British and behead a governor in 1824

The Ashanti were between the 15th & 19th century having enormous wealth and dominance over trade It’s almost 200 years since the Battle of Nsamankow, which was fought between the Ashanti Kingdom that occupied what is now southern Ghana and the British. In that war, during the reign of Ashanti king Osei Tutu Kwame Asibe Bonsu (c. 1801–24), the Ashanti brutally defeated the British, killing a governor on January 21, 1824. That war would mark the beginning of the over 100 years of battle between the British and the Ashanti people which is today known as the Anglo-Ashanti wars. But what sparked the war? History says the Ashanti (or Asante), part of the Akan ethnic group and native to the Ashanti Region of modern-day Ghana, were between the 15th and 19th century having enormous wealth and dominance over trade and lands, as well as, strong warriors who fought to protect their kingdom from both local and foreign threats.
