A multi-channel video by the artist Sung Jae Lee is playing meditational sounds while petals move on a screen at the California Museum of Art.
It’s one of the art works on display as part of a new exhibit themed on beauty, featuring local and international artists.
The museum has been closed for a year because of the pandemic and reopened Friday.
The museum’s Director is Roya Alt and she says they ve looked forward to welcoming back visitors.
The museum is notable not just for its new exhibits, but also for its unique location – nestled among the stores in The Oaks Mall in Thousand Oaks.
Wendy Ringo added some southern hospitality to Twelve Oaks Mall.
The owner of Sugah Please Coffee House opened her shop at the Novi shopping center earlier this year, bringing with her all kinds of sweets and treats. The name and products are reminiscent of time spent with family, including some from places like Georgia and Florida. When I think of Sugah Please, I just think of all the things that made me excited as a child, she said. Whenever we would have a (family) gathering, it would always center around coffee and tea. We do have a strong constituency in the South on my dad s side.
The new measure makes panhandling on a street median that’s 6 feet or less wide illegal.
While city and police officials insist the ordinance is not targeting them, people who are homeless and their advocates say there’s no question who will be hurt the most.
“I’m living on the streets,” said Charles Smith, 35, who has been panhandling in the city for about a month, “and now you want to fine me because I’m out here trying to make a living?”
Smith said it’s so much easier for panhandlers if they can stand along a median as drivers waiting at a red light have time to think about giving spare change.
