Emotional moment as Oakland police chief thanks mom
Oakland native LeRonne Armstrong got emotional thanking his mom during a ceremony swearing him in as new police chief.
OAKLAND, Calif. - Deputy Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong, a 22-year veteran of the department and an Oakland native, formally accepted his new post as the city s top cop on Monday at his alma mater, McClymonds High School, while saying he was grateful to step in during these challenging times and getting choked up while thanking his mother for where he is today.

OAKLAND (BCN) Mayor Libby Schaaf on Friday tapped a 22-year veteran of the Oakland Police Department to be the agency s new chief.
LeRonne Armstrong, currently a deputy chief, will be sworn in Monday at 10 a.m., ending the tenure of interim Police Chief Susan Manheimer. This department is looking for a mentor, looking for a leader, Schaaf said in a video announcing her selection of Armstrong.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf selected Oakland Deputy Chief LeRonne Armstrong, a 22-year veteran of the city’s Police Department, as the city’s next police chief on Friday.
Armstrong was picked ahead of three other candidates for the job: interim Deputy Chief Drennon Lindsey, Pittsburgh Police Commander Jason Lando and Seaside (Monterey County) Police Chief Abdul Pridgen.
He will take over the position from former San Mateo Police Chief Susan Manheimer, whose contract as interim chief was set to expire at the end of the week. Schaaf hired Manheimer last March after the Oakland Police Commission and Schaaf fired former Oakland Police Chief Anne Kirkpatrick.

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf talks crime in the city and says a new police chief will be announced in the next couple of days.
OAKLAND, Calif. - Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf told KTVU on Tuesday that she plans to announce a new police chief literally within a number of days.
That person will be the 13th chief since 1993. The last chief, Anne Kirkpatrick, was fired by the Oakland Police Commission nearly a year ago, and Interim Police Chief Susan Manheimer has been filling in ever since.
