Two separate groups smashed out windows in different areas and displayed messages like “Help Us.” People could be heard chanting: “We want court dates!”
The majority of people held in city jails like this one are in pretrial status, without having been convicted of any crime. They are trapped inside for years and exposed to medical neglect and COVID while awaiting trial.

Turn Key Health, the health care provider for the Oklahoma County Detention Center, has rescinded its warning to terminate the jail contract after a hostage incident last month called into question the current working conditions and safety for the health care staff.
In a notice sent March 29 to the jail administrator, Turn Key said the jail would need to increase staffing or the provider would terminate the partnership.
Both Turn Key and the jail said they were committed to making the partnership work.
This week Turn Key officials acknowledged the jail’s improvements saying in part, “the strategic planning we are working on together gives us assurance that our expectations will be met.
