Thursday, May 13, 2021 - 12:52 pm OGDENSBURG - North Country residents looking to reel in their next big catch can now do so with a little help from the Ogdensburg Public Library. Just in time for summer, the library is offering a variety of fishing poles and other equipment available to those who hold an Ogdensburg Public Library card. The equipment, which includes fishing poles, nets, tackle boxes and children’s fishing sets, among other angling necessities, was purchased via funds secured by State Senator Patty Ritchie. “Gone are the days when libraries were just places where you could check out a good book,” said Senator Patty Ritchie. “Today’s libraries Ogdensburg Public Library included are going above and beyond to offer so much more for their patrons.”

As a child, I visited the library often to borrow books and participate in library programs. My college work-study assignment was in the college library. After receiving my teaching degree, I became certified as a K-12 library media specialist. This is when I really learned the value of a good library.

Tuesday, May 4, 2021 - 10:51 am To the Editor: How is a significant loss of good paying jobs, “For a Better Ogdensburg”? Not a loss decided by a private company or organization, or a state or federal entity, which we’d all rail against, but cuts consciously made by four elected city officials. The same officials who are now threatening our public library. Ogdensburg taxpayers recently got, on average, a $100 a year tax cut (more for those who approved the cut). But at what cost to our community as a whole? The mayor callously compared the devastating job cuts, which damaged individuals, departments, and relationships, to the “demolition” phase of a “construction rehab project”. A mindset that speaks volumes.
