Controlled burns planned on DOE Oak Ridge Reservation

The U.S. Department of Energy is initiating a series of controlled burns of grassland areas on the DOE Oak Ridge Reservation on the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) Three Bend Area off Pump House and Bull Bluff roads, and other managed grassland areas off Bethel Valley Road and off Highway 58.
Continuing through mid-April, as weather permits, controlled burns will take place at:
• Freels Bend fields – up to approximately 284 acres of grassland and scrub;
• Gallaher Bend fields up to approximately 125 acres of grassland and kudzu;
• Solway Bend fields – up to approximately 62 acres of grassland;

The controlled burns could continue through mid-April, depending upon weather. The burns will be on the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency Three Bend Area off Pump House and Bull Bluff Roads, and other managed grassland areas off Bethel Valley Road and off Highway 58, a press release said.
The controlled burns will take place at:

Nashville explosion hits MMC phones

The bombing in downtown Nashville on Christmas Day continues to have its impact on the Oak Ridge area.
AT&T confirmed Sunday that its facility on Second Avenue North near the blast site in Nashville was severely damaged in the explosion, causing widespread wireless and internet outages as well as disrupting 911 access, reported journalists for The Tennessean newspaper. The outages reached from Kentucky to Alabama, and were focused in Middle Tennessee.
Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge had phone issues throughout the weekend because of the explosion. Solomon named new city fire chief
Officials with the city of Oak Ridge have selected Travis Solomon as its new fire chief.
He was sworn in by City Manager Mark Watson during the Monday night s Oak Ridge City Council meeting.
Solomon, who previously served as Oak Ridge Fire Department fire marshal, has served as interim fire chief since former Chief Darryl Kerley’s departure in August. Solomon begins this role immediately.
“Oak Ridge has always been the model and leading fire service. I want to continue that and enhance the services we provide to better our ability to serve the public,” Solomon stated in a city news release.

The City of Oak Ridge has named Travis Solomon as its new fire chief.
Solomon, who previously served as Oak Ridge Fire Department fire marshal, has served as interim fire chief since former Chief Darryl Kerley’s departure in August. Solomon begins serving as fire chief immediately, a press release said.
“Oak Ridge has always been the model and leading fire service,” Solomon said in the press release. “I want to continue that and enhance the services we provide to better our ability to serve the public.”
Solomon has served with the Oak Ridge Fire Department since February 2016 as fire marshal. In that role, he oversaw many procedures including inspections, plans review, fire investigations, and public education activities, the press release said.
