Following a season of hybrid concerts, Oak Ridge Civic Music Association presents the full Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra in its season finale event, at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 6 at the Pavilion Bandshell at A.K. Bissell Park.

Ray Smith/Historically Speaking Of the many things about Oak Ridge history that are so special, one is the wide variety of culturally entertaining opportunities usually found only in much larger cities. We are indeed fortunate to be able to avail ourselves of such things as the Oak Ridge Playhouse, the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association, and the Art Center. These date back to the early days and they have one significant thing in common. They came about because a group of individuals wanted Oak Ridge to have those things and they just set about to make it happen.

Oak Ridge Chorus, Roane Choral Society, and special guests livestream, A Collaboration for Healing Special to The Oak Ridger The Oak Ridge Chorus (ORC) joins forces with Roane Choral Society (RCS), guest singers from Knoxtet, Roane State Community College Vocal Ensemble & Concert Choir, guest composer Wil Wright, and guest visual artists Maurice Lowery and Betsy Spooner for a livestream concert: “A Collaboration for Healing,” at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 16. The three compositions on the program are Karen Marrolli s touching “Undivided”; Morten Lauridsen s revered and beautiful “Lux Aeterna”; and Knoxville composer William Wright s commissioned piece for healing, “Concordia,” led by Choral Director Brenda Luggie. Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra principals Shelby Shankland and Theodore Kartal, and ORC and RCS accompanists Melony Dodson and Slade Trammell unite the vocal music with the added beauty of flute, cello, piano and organ. Next ORCMA live performance to include wind, brass soloists Special to The Oak Ridger Continuing its hybrid programming, the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association (ORCMA) will present the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra: Strings & Soloists in a live concert at the Historic Grove Theater at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 17.  Soloists include Deniz Yayman, oboe; Lydia Schoen, English horn; and Joel Tillman, trumpet. A limited number of tickets will be available for purchase for in-person attendance. Tickets, $15 per person, must be purchased in advance, online at ORCMA.org or via phone at (865) 483-5569. Attendees will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination, be masked, and remain socially distanced.
