Hundreds of veterans and service members, some in business attire and others in uniform, posed for a portrait as they came to pay their respects at Oak Hill Cemetery. It was May 30, 1921 or Decoration Day   at the time a Michigan state holiday  when the graves of fallen soldiers who died in the line of duty would be decorated in gratitude for their sacrifice. The last Monday of May would become a national holiday in 1971, recognized as Memorial Day.
