Today marks the 60th birthday of former Senate President and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Anyim Pius Anyim. Since his stint as SGF, he has been rather quiet; occupying himself with a Foundation that is dedicated to mentoring and nurturing young people of all walks of life on leadership and the virtues of responsible followership. But it is all being done without fanfare. “Values,” he once told his group, “define our humanity and it is on values that societies rise or fall. The values of development are different from the values of decay and those who do not follow the path of development constitute part of the developmental problems of any environment in which they find themselves. I would not like you, as leaders of tomorrow, to go astray in this all-important journey of life”

If you give a man a job, you must also give him the tools and enabling environment to perform the job. It is only then that you can reasonably demand, and expect, good results. An expert without tools, and who also does not have the enabling environment to perform, will only have his hard-earned reputation ruined. Thus, when an expert is given a task he would have ordinarily performed very well, but is not given what he needs for the job, he will achieve nothing commendable. Also, for an expert to succeed, whatever he needs must be given to him on time, in the right measure and to the degree required. For instance, the most brilliant and experienced car mechanic or Maintenance Officer will not be able to change a single spark plug in a car if you just announce his appointment, read out his resume and then send him into the workshop without a tool kit. Notable Igbo sons and daughters have begun moves to elicit the support of other regional blocs for the realization of south east presidency project in 2023.
They therefore called on every Nigerian to key into the project, saying time has come for the country to produce its next president from the zone.
The Igbo leaders spoke at the just concluded 6th World Igbo Summit which took place at the Gregory University Uturu, Abia State over the weekend.
Themed “Enduring Future for Ndigbo: Expectations and Challenges”, the Summit was essentially aimed at reawakening the Igbo consciousness and ensuring that Ndigbo become more organized and cohesive, making their voices, demanding for restructuring Nigeria and networking for Nigeria’s presidency of Igbo extraction, loudest.
