Arkansas Adventure - My New Orleans

My New Orleans 04/30/2021 Red Bluff Overlook above the Buffalo National River It’s a long drive from the Louisiana border to the Arkansas highlands, whether visiting the Ouachita Mountains near Hot Springs or the Ozarks blending into Missouri. If you’re headed to higher ground this spring, or just need a road trip to clear your mind, spend those long hours along Scenic Byway 7, Arkansas’s first state-designated scenic byway that begins around El Dorado, north of Ruston, and ends at the Missouri line east of Eureka Springs. The 290-mile road trip takes visitors from the West Gulf Coastal Plain in the south, through central Arkansas hills and the Ouachita Mountains to the west and ends in the mid-Ozarks along the Buffalo National River. Visitors will enjoy four geographical regions of the Natural State, plus view numerous historic sites, state parks and other great outdoors attractions and plenty of spots to pause for Southern cuisine and a slice of Arkansas possum pie.

The Worlds Tallest Hill Is In Oklahoma

The Worlds Tallest Hill Is In Oklahoma If you didn t already know, Oklahoma is pretty well known for a bunch of unique things. Some of them touristy, some of them are food related, but a good number of them stem from just the natural landscapes that make this state one of one. For instance, did you know that Oklahoma is the most ecologically diverse bordered state in the world? There s eleven uniquely different ecological areas of this state to include: 1. Western High Plains 11. Cyprus Swamp Land and Forests Here in Lawton, we live within the Central Great Plains. and while we do have the Wichita Mountains, it s all a part of the Ouachita range stretching from Arkansas up the Caprock area of West Texas according to Wikipedia. Beyond all of that, here s something new I didn t know about Oklahoma. it s home to the tallest hill in the world.

Limb Failure Of Spontaneous Nature

Canyon News Winter storms sometimes break limbs or topple trees. Such damage is no surprise during winter because that is when almost all windy weather happens here. Early storms during autumn might be more damaging because deciduous trees are less aerodynamic prior to defoliation. Nonetheless, falling trees and limb failure typically associate with wind. That is why spontaneous limb failure is such a surprise when it happens, typically during pleasantly mild or warm weather of spring or early summer. It is more likely without wind than with it. Humidity, although atypical here, is a contributing factor. Healthy trees within riparian situations or lawns are more susceptible than distressed trees in drier situations.

Reintroducing Black Bears to Oklahoma

Bearpacker is Backpacker’s annual celebration of bear safety, science, and stories.  Rambler, a black bear with brown points on his nose and eyebrows, spends late spring and early summer months in eastern Oklahoma. When autumn closes in, he moves west. As the crow flies, he covers about 60 miles, but as a bear walks, it’s farther. It’s no pleasure cruise: Rambler is after what he and his species need to survive.  Bears have been spilling over into Oklahoma from a reintroduction effort in Arkansas, and females occupy new landscapes more slowly than males do, so Rambler is compelled to travel east along the Ouachita Mountains each spring to find a mate. But, to the west, he finds few other bears nosing around for acorns in the dense stands of oak trees. With no one else to share the feast, he fattens up from about 350 to 450 pounds. Then, he piles up pine straw, digs a divot in the center, and curls up to hibernate in what looks like a huge bird’s nest, its edges 3- to 4-fe
