Rutledge Awards Miller and Hempstead County Officer of the Year Awards

KTOY Nominations were provided to Attorney General Rutledge from police chiefs, county sheriffs, county judges, mayors, prosecutors and other State law enforcement leaders from across Arkansas. Arkansas Attorney General Leslie Rutledge awarded the Miller County Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award to Captain Lillie Phillips with the Arkansas Department of Correction and the Hempstead County Outstanding Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award to Corporal Corwin Battle and Corporal David Hamilton with Arkansas State Police. Rutledge presented the county winners at the annual awards and recognition luncheon during the 2020 Officer of the Year luncheon at the Benton Event Center.

Man found screaming for help on front porch in Ouachita County dies from gunshot wounds

Updated: 10:20 AM CST December 21, 2020 OUACHITA COUNTY, Ark According to the Ouachita County Sheriff s Department, on Saturday, Dec. 19, at approximately 4:37 p.m., deputies were dispatched to a residence on Mt. Holly Road to a report of someone screaming. Upon arrival, deputies and EMS made contact with 53-year-old Bryant Bailey lying on the ground in the front of his residence.  Bailey was found suffering was from gunshot wounds and was transported to the hospital, where he died due to his injuries.  Anyone who has any information pertaining to this homicide is asked to come forward by the Ouachita County Sheriff s Department.  Deputies say a cash reward is being offered for the information leading to the arrest of the suspects responsible.

Commission authorizes funding for critical habitat-enhancement projects SPRINGDALE – The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission authorized $760,000 to be allocated to five engineering projects vital for fish and wildlife conservation during today’s meeting. The meeting took place at the newly constructed J.B. and Johnelle Hunt Family Ozark Highlands Nature Center, preceding a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the location. The following projects received budget increases: $60,000 for engineering design of a moist-soil unit on a recent AGFC property acquisition at Frog Bayou WMA in Crawford County. $200,000 for a topographical engineering survey of greentree reservoir levees and structures for the first phase of a multi-phase project at George H. Dunklin Jr. Bayou Meto WMA in Arkansas County.

Magnolia Regional Medical Center gets first 50 COVID-19 vaccines

Magnolia Regional Medical Center personnel received Wednesday the first 50-person batch of COVID-19 vaccine, hours before Gov. Asa Hutchinson pronounced the state’s most grim day since he declared a public health emergency on March 11. MRMC spokeswoman Karen Weido said the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine arrived about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. It was delivered by Michael Butler, pharmacist and owner of Village Health Mart in Hot Springs Village. Dr. Fred Murphy, the MRMC hospitalist who is also the Columbia County Health Officer, received the first dose, followed by MRMC Chief Executive Officer Rex Jones. Front-line staff who have elected to receive the vaccine will get the remaining doses by Friday. They will receive a required second dose in 21 days.
