He photographs ‘em as he sees ‘em
Plan to catch Jim Kalupa’s show “The World as I See It” at Fifth Avenue Art Gallery through May 29. Meet the artist during the free opening reception from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Friday, May 7.
The show focuses on Kalupa’s pursuit of his two passions, travel and photography.
Covering the world with camera in hand, Kalupa uses his travels as inspiration. His work is in galleries, art exhibitions, public and business venues and private collections coast to coast. His style is truly 21st century as he blends photographic imagery with fine art and other special effects. The results run the gamut from images “slightly tweaked” for exposure and clarity to subdued photographs with watercolor overtones. He calls his work “photo art,” and observers are often reminded that they are viewing enhanced photography and not another art form.

WWII-era Plane Crash-Lands in the Ocean During Florida Air Show
On 4/19/21 at 5:15 AM EDT
A WWII-era plane which crash-landed in the ocean during a Florida air show has been compared to pilot Chesley Sully Sullenberger s emergency landing in the Hudson.
The vintage aircraft was part of the Cocoa Beach Air Show, but a mechanical failure forced the pilot to ditch the plane on the packed beaches near the Patrick Space Force Base.
People can be heard expressing their shock as the craft comes down, and footage shows bystanders rushing towards the plane as it comes to a halt after skidding along the surface.
“He was sputtering down the beach and I was like, oh he doesn’t sound good and I just started filming, Schrader said.
“It looked like (the pilot) pulled up at the last moment and avoided any spectators, there were loads of people on the water, and then I saw him on top of the plane. It looked like he was OK, she said.
The pilot reportedly declined medical treatment after the incident, according to Brevard County Fire Rescue officials. The TBM Avenger performing in the warbird parade had a mechanical issue and the pilot was able to bring the plane down close to the shore. Rescue personnel were immediately on scene and the pilot is OK, according to Cocoa Beach Air Show officials in a prepared statement.

MELBOURNE, Fla. – A World War II-era plane taking part in the Cocoa Beach Air Show made an emergency landing in the ocean near Patrick Space Force Base beaches Saturday afternoon.
No one was injured, emergency officials said.
A video posted to Twitter showed the single-engine TBM Avenger making a soft landing in the shallow water south of Cocoa Beach.
In the footage, the plane descends low in a controlled fashion before coming to a skidding halt in the ocean, sending up spray and foam.
In another video captured by Melanie Schrader of Melbourne, the plane s single propeller can be seen no longer spinning as it glides toward the shallow water. Dozens of people in the water look up as it passes close overhead, and bystanders express shock as they watch the small aircraft make its descent.
