Demolition of Tom Lee Park in Memphis to begin Thursday
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) -The demolition of Tom Lee park will be underway Thursday.
The $60-million renovation of Memphis’ signature downtown park got two critical green lights: one from Mayor Strickland’s Riverfront Steering Committee, the other from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Tom Lee Park sits on a 30-acre berm that helps stabilize the bluff along the Mississippi River at Memphis. Structural changes must be approved by the Corps of Engineers. Tuesday, July 20, 2021, the Corps issued the 408 permit needed to make so many of the wonderful features seen in renderings possible.

Bachmann said she has had her eye on that restaurant space for years. “It’s the old Marena’s. That was one of my favorite spots,” she said. “I looked at it before we opened Ecco, but it wasn’t the right space at the time.”
Luckily, the location became available just as Bachmann was considering expanding.
Bachmann said they are completely renovating the space. “It hasn’t had much love in a while,” she said, explaining they are replacing equipment as well as décor.
Plans for outdoor dining are also in the works for in front of the restaurant and in what she describes as a “New Orleans-style” alleyway behind the building.
