Son dies days after father killed in Liverpool site incident A teenager injured on a Liverpool city centre building site has died four days after the incident, which also killed his father. Merseyside Police announced today that the teenager, 17, died in hospital on Sunday. Laing O’Rourke had been carrying out waterproofing works at the Unity Building site on Chapel Street, a mixed-use residential and commercial development of 27 and 16 storeys respectively. The two men were father and son, and had been working on site, according to the Liverpool Echo, which later named them as David Bottomley, 53, and Clayton Bottomley, 17. Today’s police statement, which corrected the teenager’s age to 17, from the initially stated 18, said: “The male’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers at this time.”

Two seriously injured in Liverpool mast-climber fall

Man killed in Liverpool ‘mast-climber fall’, another critical Merseyside Police have confirmed that one man was killed and another left seriously injured following the reported collapse of a mast climber in Liverpool city centre yesterday (19 May) afternoon. In a statement, the police said a 53-year-old man lost his life in the incident, while a second man aged 18 was taken to hospital and “remains in a critical condition”. Contractor Laing O’Rourke had been carrying out works at the Unity Building on Chapel Street, a mixed-use residential and commercial development of 27 and 16 storeys respectively. A Laing O’Rourke spokesperson said: “We can confirm there was an incident at the Unity Building yesterday afternoon in which two men were seriously injured. Tragically, one of the men died at the scene and the second is in a critical condition in hospital.
