Simone Kraus: You are a long-distance trail runner. How does running inform your thinking, how does it affect your writing?

Meadows: Strangely, it wasn’t until after running the Never Summer 100K in 2019 that I began to write in poetry and prose about running. That said, the rhythms of running feel essential to my thinking and writing, with different sequences mirroring the sprint up a hill, or a long rolling stretch, the pause between breaths or strides that feels like an endless suspension, or the breathless careening

A jolting January finally turned in Chris Corning’s favor earlier this week after it dealt him some bad fortune earlier this month.
Though he was the top-scoring American at the season-opening Kreischberg, Austria, World Cup big air contest, Corning did not make the cut for finals. His performance came after his gear was lost in transportation to Europe, meaning Corning had to compete on borrowed gear he was unfamiliar with.
A week later, Corning got word he and the majority of the U.S. Snowboard Team’s other slopestyle pros would not be able to compete at the Laax Open in Switzerland. Corning quarantined but never tested positive for the virus.

Most experienced skiers and snowboarders know the answer to this question but its response bears repeating: What is your single most important piece of equipment in terms of performance?
If you said high-quality skies or snowboard, or bindings, you’d be wrong. Great execution of turns on all types of snow begins with good boots.
I’ve been on my pair for probably a decade or more, and they’d long outlived their intended lifespan, but I’ve resisted getting a new pair because they are so comfortable, they seem to work quite well still, and new boots are not cheap.
