City Council and Planning Commission have meeting on Comprehensive Plan update

The Fremont City Council and Planning Commission had a special meeting on Tuesday to discuss progress on the cityâs efforts to update its Comprehensive Plan, Long Range Transportation Plan and Unified Development Code. The meeting was centered on a status update on an existing conditions report completed by Houseal Lavigne, the Chicago-based planning and design firm contracted by the city to update the two plans and code, and upcoming community workshops. The Comprehensive Plan is a document, typically updated every 10 years, that guides the future growth and development of Fremont. The process of updating the documents, which began in November, is expected to reach the hands of City Council by May 2022.

Proposal For Splitting Up Lyons Station Center Approved In Santa Clarita Planning Commission Meeting A motion was passed Tuesday to split the Lyons Station Center in Newhall into eight different sections with various opportunities for new ownership. In a regular planning commission meeting with the City of Santa Clarita Tuesday, a motion was unanimously passed to split up the Lyons Station Center in Newhall from three separate plots of land into eight. “The Lyons Station Center was approved and constructed under the authority of Los Angeles County in 1977 and 1978,” said Associate Planner Mike Marshall. “The center was established to house large commercial centers, offices, retailers and services.”

[Photo by Derrick Stuckly]EARLY – Early Mayor Dr. Robert Mangrum gave his State of the City Address Friday at the Early Visitors and Events Center, where he discussed the COVID and winter storm impacts, as well as the city’s future. The following are highlights from Mangrum’s address: COVID IMPACT ON EARLY Early’s hotel tax revenue was reduced by 7.3%, which is equal to $21,734. The hotel industry appeared to have been impacted far greater than other sectors. With local economy slowing down and businesses forced to close their doors, the sales tax collection began to decline. The budget was tightened and spending was slowed to deal with the reduction. Overall, the decrease was 5% or nearly $75,000.
