UPDATE: Small wildfires north of Big White are now a combined 300-hectare blaze visible from Kelowna (UPDATE: June 30 @ 4:30 pm) – A pair of small wildfires north of Big White have grown rapidly since this morning, creating a large blaze that is visible from Kelowna. The Derickson Lake fire, which was only three hectares this morning, is now estimated to be a combined 300 hectares by the BC Wildfire Service but excessive smoke has made it hard to determine. The significant growth was aided by the Long Loch fire, which was caused by lightning and only 0.5 hectares when the day began. Both fires started on Tuesday.
