Two DeKalb County Special Olympics athletes have been selected as members of Team Indiana Track and Field and will compete at the 2022 USA Games in Orlando, Florida.
Ashlyn Heller and Romano Ritenour were selected based on their outstanding performance at the Summer Games in Terre Haute on June 12, where they both captured first place in all of their events. Heller is one of six females and Ritenour is one of six males from Indiana who make up the 12-member track and field team.
âSpecial Olympics has been a 53-year global movement to provide opportunity in sports, as well as inclusion in all aspects of community life, for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics has truly changed the world,â said Special Olympics DeKalb County coordinator Connie Allen.
Mizzou WBB spends time at Special Olympics Missouri Selection Camp

The Mizzou women s basketball team spent some time at the Special Olympics Missouri Training For Life Facility on Monday afternoon.
Head coach Robin Pingeton and her squad played Minute To Win It with the athletes currently competing for a spot on Team Missouri. These athletes are such amazing people, and it s such a great opportunity, Mizzou guard Hayley Frank said. We re so thankful to get to come out and spend some time with them.

This week - SOMO is hosting more than 150 athletes for its selection camp. The athletes will compete in nine different sports in both Jefferson City and Fulton from Sunday through Thursday. The camp will determine which athletes will compete in the USA Games next summer in Orlando, Fla. SOMO expects to announce the team on Aug. 1.
