On Friday, Mickelson accepted a special exemption from the United States Golf Association to play in the tournament June 17-20 at the South Course at Torrey Pines, near where he was raised in the San Diego area. He will turn 51 the day before the tournament starts. He has been the runner-up six times in his 29 appearances in the tournament.

(Chris Keane/USGA) Florida’s Ricky Castillo represented something much larger than the orange and blue this weekend.  Down in Juno Beach, Florida, Castillo was a member of a 10-man team carrying the stars and stripes.  The Walker Cup is a biennial tournament matching up amateurs from the United States against a team from Great Britain and Ireland. The United States Golf Association (USGA) selected golfers for the United States, and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews (R&A) made the selections for Great Britain and Ireland.
