FAYETTEVILLE – After wins over the top two teams in the SEC last week – including a victory versus sixth-ranked Alabama, Arkansas moved up eight spots to 12th in the AP poll and seven places to #13 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The leap was the best in both polls among the top 25 teams this week.
The Razorbacks are among the nation’s top 15 for the first time since November 15, 2000, and have not been ranked as high as #12 since the poll released on Feb. 23, 1998. The Hogs are additionally a program-best #19 in the NCAA NET rankings.
This is the third week in a row Arkansas is ranked standing at #24 and #20, respectively, in the last two weeks.
March 1, 2021 Florida State Extends Hamilton’s Contract
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) Florida State University Vice President and Director of Athletics David Coburn announced today that Florida State has extended the contract with head basketball coach Leonard Hamilton through the 2024-25 season.
“Coach Hamilton has done so much for this basketball program and this university that it is hard to express in words,” said Coburn. “What he does with his young men, both on and off the court, is truly remarkable. I know both the President and I regard him as a university treasure, and he is just now getting the national recognition he has deserved for so long. He embodies all the qualities that make a great leader, and we are proud and thrilled to have him as our coach as long as he wishes.”
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State freshman Scottie Barnes, the Seminoles’ leader in assists and steals, has been named as one of the Top 10 candidates for the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award by the Nasimith Basketball Hall of Fame. Barnes is one of three freshmen from around the nation and one of only two players from the ACC selected as one of the top candidates for the award named for former Boston College and Holy Cross guard Bob Cousy.
Barnes enters Wednesday’s game against Miami at the Donald L. Tucker Center as Florida State’s’ leader in assists (40 / 4.0 apg) and steals (14 / 1.4 spg) while ranking second in scoring (10.6 ppg) and fourth in rebounding (40 / 4.0 rpg). He ranks fifth in the ACC in assist:turnover ratio (2.1:1) and seventh in the ACC in assists.
