Channel One Director honored with Maude Finch award

KAAL-TV Created: April 13, 2021 04:16 PM (ABC 6 News)- Channel One Regional Food Bank’s Executive Director, Virginia Merritt (JD) is being honored with United Way of Olmsted County’s Maude Finch Award for revolutionizing food banking and food shelves across southeast Minnesota. The award is given by United Way’s Women United group in recognition of a community woman whose service and achievements are outstanding examples of living united to advance the common good through their action, results, and time in one or more of the building blocks for a good quality of life – education, health, income, and basics needs. Merritt’s dedication to advancing the wellbeing of communities helped created a human-centered, culturally responsive, and streamlined food-box and food-shelf experience for community members.

(KEYC) A regional food bank in southern Minnesota will be bringing boxes of free food to the Faribault County Fairgrounds next weekend. Channel One Regional Food Bank will be hosting the “Truck to Trunk” event in Blue Earth on Saturday, March 20. The “Farmers to Families” food boxes will be available to anyone in need and contain milk, cheese and yogurt; cooked, refrigerated meat; and fresh fruit and vegetables.

The annual ice event put on by the Rochester Downtown Alliance (RDA) usually draws in thousands of people. But with the pandemic, things needed to change if they wanted to keep it going. We thought, what would be safe and allow people to come through at their leisure? So we have Improv-ICE, says Holly Masek, Executive Director for the Downtown Rochester Alliance. Instead of just one weekend, Improv-ICE will be a week-long event. RDA hopes this will keep crowd sizes small.

Sioux Falls food bank receives part of Hy-Vee million pound food donation

(KELO.com)   Hy-Vee, Inc. announced today that it is partnering with dozens of national and regional food manufacturers and suppliers to help provide more than 1 million pounds of food to 17 food banks across its eight-state region for the holiday season. One of the recipients is Sioux Falls’ very own Feeding South Dakota. Hy-Vee collaborated with many of its supplier partners to fill more than 20 truckloads with food and supplies for 17 Feeding America-affiliated food banks across the Midwest. Hy-Vee has received donations of protein, produce, dairy, and nonperishable items, as well as monetary donations from 26 leading food manufacturers.
