LUSAKA, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) Zambian President Edgar Lungu on Thursday reiterated his government s commitment to free, fair and peaceful elections next year.
The Zambian leader has therefore urged stakeholders to ensure continued peace and stability in the country ahead of the general elections. Our record of peace and stability continues to be a shining example to the world at large. We continue to be a beacon of peace in Africa. Yes, we have had our differences but we continue to cherish and nurture this peace in the spirit of One Zambia, One Nation. I implore each one of us not to take this peace and stability for granted, he said in his New Year address.
President Edgar Lungu has reiterated his call on the Church to continue praying for politicians in the country. President Lungu says the Church has the obligation to pray for and counsel not just the President and government but all the politicians including those in opposition.
He notes that politicians in the opposition are also part of the Zambian political landscape hence the need to pray for them and to bring them closer to God.
The Head of State said this at State House in Lusaka this morning when a team from Bishops Council of Zambia paid a courtesy call on him.

The proscription against ethnic discrimination can be justified on deontological, utilitarian, and communitarian or Ubuntu ethical grounds. Every Zambian has intrinsic worth usually espoused in the language of human rights. This imposes duties to treat all Zambians with respect regardless of their ethnicity. A set of rules that counts everyone’s interests equally regardless of ethnicity is likely to engender greater aggregate wellbeing than a set of rules that treats some people as more equal than others in virtue of their ethnicity. Our humanity rests in acting so as to enhance harmony and to reduce discord, and in protecting those who are threatened. In a just society, opportunities must be equally open to
