After a yearlong hiatus due to COVID-19 precautions and mandatory restrictions on public gatherings, the Center Line Independence Festival will return with a full slate of events June 4-6 at Memorial Park on Lawrence Avenue, north of 10 Mile Road. Themed live music and family-friendly activities, a carnival and refreshments are planned each day. Activities include inflatables, helicopter rides and a petting zoo.

Investigation ongoing after fire at Warren Manor Advertisement WARREN A week and a half after a fire in the midnight hour on May 8 ravaged four units and damaged four more at the Warren Manor Apartments, an investigation into the cause remained ongoing at press time. “They sent samples to the Michigan State Police,” Warren Fire Commissioner Skip McAdams said on May 18. He said three samples were collected in a bedroom of a second-floor unit at the apartment complex, on the east side of Dequindre Road south of Nine Mile Road. The room, which was described as the room of origin, reportedly had very little furniture in it when the fire broke out. McAdams said the occupant left for Tennessee right after the fire. He added that she did speak to investigators by phone.

Emergency services were called to Tuncurry beach, more than 300 kms (186 miles) north of Sydney, after reports of the shark attack, NSW police said in a statement. The man, believed to be in his 50s, suffered critical injuries to his upper right thigh after being attacked while surfing. “Despite the best efforts of paramedics and bystanders at the scene, the man could not be resuscitated,” NSW Ambulance said in a tweet.
