The pandemic: Behind the doors of Billerica s Sweeney funeral home

Wicked Local A family affair since 1959, the four-person team at Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home has experienced the last year like many of us; in a blur. The job is usually 24/7, sometimes directors and employees having to leave during holidays and family events to attend to the needs of those in mourning. But this past year has truly been like no other for the close-knit group. The family at Sweeney are not all related by blood, but by shared experience and the trauma of seeing COVID-19 from the final step of the frontline; the viewing room or graveside. Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home owner Dean Laurendeau has spent his career on Concord Road caring for families and their loved ones who have died.
