South Africa Orders 20m Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccines

The country’s health minister made the disclosure to a Sunday newspaper. A first shipment of AstraZeneca/Oxford jabs produced in India is bound to arrive on Monday, with injections expected to begin two weeks later. Health Minister Zweli Mkhize disclosed to The Sunday Times that 20 million extra covid-19 vaccines had been ordered from US drug company, Pfizer. According to him, “The vaccines are secured and waiting for manufacturers to submit final agreements with details of delivery dates and specific amounts”. His words, “We have capacity in academic institutions. There are now companies coming forward with storage and transit solutions”.

Abducted Bauchi Principal Regains Freedom By Onwuka Gerald The abducted Principal of Government Day Secondary School, Lere in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Iliyasu Suleiman, has regained freedom after spending eight days with kidnappers. Recall that the principal accompanied by the Auditor General of Bauchi State, Abdu Usman Aliyu, his (the AG’s) son, daughter and two others, were attacked by gunmen on their way to Kardam in Tafawa Balewa LGA. The armed men tried kidnapping the Auditor General, on resisting, they shot him in his mouth at close range wounding him in the process. Thinking he was dead, the gunmen left him in a pool of his blood and abducted his son and the Principal while the other occupants of the car escaped.

New Chief Of Defence Staff: Major-General Irabor Resumes Office

By Onwuka Gerald Newly appointed Chief of Defence Staff, Major-General Leo Irabor, has on Friday resumed office at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja. Major-General Irabor took over from General Gabriel Olonisakin, as the new Chief of Defence Staff. Olonisakin in a tweet, announced the change by saying that, “Today I formally hand over the baton of leadership as the CDS- AFN to Maj-Gen Leo Irabor. “I wish to thank the President, C-in-C (Commander-in-Chief) of the AFN (Armed Forces of Nigeria), and Nigerians for the privilege to serve this great country. I congratulate Maj Gen Irabor and wish him a successful tenure”, he added.
