Tuesday update: Oswego County virus cases up 12 to 7,968

OSWEGO — Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang announced Tuesday, May 18, that 12 additional residents tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total cumulative number of positive cases since the county began monitoring for COVID-19 in March 2020 to 7,968. There are currently 122 active positive cases. Effective Wednesday, May 19, Oswego County will join the State in adopting the CDC’s new guidance on face-masking and social distancing for fully vaccinated people as it relates to county facilities and property. “As of tomorrow, all fully vaccinated employees and members of the public – those who are more than two weeks past their final COVID-19 vaccine dose – will no longer be required to wear a face mask or maintain social distancing while at work or in county facilities, either indoors or outdoors, unless a face covering is otherwise required by state or federal law, regulation or order,” said Oswego County Legislature Chairman Ja

Monday update: Oswego County virus cases up 29 since Saturday to 7,956

OSWEGO COUNTY – Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang announced Monday, May 17, that 29 additional residents tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total cumulative number of positive cases since the county began monitoring for COVID-19 in March 2020 to 7,956. The 29 new positive cases reported today are a combined total from the last three days. There were 12 new cases on Saturday, 11 on Sunday, and six today. There are currently 112 active positive cases. “This is the first week after the last peak that the County had a seven-day accumulated daily new case counts lower than 100,” said Huang. “It is a big achievement and indicates that community efforts and vaccines are working. I encourage people who have not yet been vaccinated, to go to get the vaccine. It is safe, effective and broadly available now.”

Friday update: Oswego County virus cases up 20 to 7,927

OSWEGO — Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang announced Friday, May 14, that 20 additional residents tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total cumulative number of positive cases since the county began monitoring for COVID-19 in March 2020 to 7,927. There are currently 158 active positive cases. The Centers for Disease Control updated its mask guidance yesterday to allow those who are fully vaccinated to participate in both indoor and outdoor activities without wearing a mask, with some exceptions including public transportation and crowded settings. Across the state, including Oswego County, the mask protocol remains unchanged while New York State and the state’s Department of Health review the guidance and the science behind it.
