OSWEGO COUNTY – Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang announced Friday, May 7, that 12 additional residents tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total cumulative number of positive cases since the county began monitoring for COVID-19 in March 2020 to 7,820. There are currently 174 active positive cases. Oswego County’s seven-day positivity rate jumped from 1.4% last week to 2.3% this week. Its community transmission rate remains “high” according to the CDC. “This shows us that the virus is still active in our communities,” said Huang. “We must work together to reduce the number of new positive cases. The best way to do that is through vaccination. Please, make an appointment for a vaccination as soon as you are able.”

OSWEGO — The Oswego County Office for the Aging and Oswego Health recently initiated the “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” course, a series of classes designed to help caregivers take better care of themselves while caring for a friend or relative. The six-week, evidence-based course teaches caregivers skills that address challenges such as stress management, handling one’s emotions, positive self-talk, communication, holding family meetings and transitions. “This course gives family caregivers the tools they need to take care of themselves while caring for someone else,” said Sara Sunday, director of the Oswego County Office for the Aging. “When you take care of your own health and well-being, you become a better caregiver. This curriculum is taught by experienced facilitators in six class sessions.”

Its community transmission rate remains “high” according to the CDC. “This shows us that the virus is still active in our communities,” said Huang. “We must work together to reduce the number of new positive cases. OSWEGO — Oswego County Public Health Director Jiancheng Huang announced Wednesday, May 5, that 21 additional residents tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total cumulative number of positive cases since the county began monitoring for COVID-19 in March 2020 to 7,785. There are currently 180 active positive cases. Yesterday, Oswego County Legislature Chairman James Weatherup reported that the County’s seven-day positivity rate jumped from 1.4% last week to 2.3% this week and that its community transmission rate remains “high” according to the CDC. “We understand this is frustrating to all of us,” he said. “But we must not let it deter us from our goal of overcoming COVID-19 and ending this pandemic. The best way to accomplish that is through vaccination.”
