The ministry expects to be leaving as many as 30,000 baits along the 401 corridor in eastern Ontario and as many as 1.4 million doses in the Golden Horseshoe region. The goal is to eventually eliminate rabies from Ontario wildlife in these areas where it is possible for wildlife to cross from the U.S.

The baits resemble the individual packages of jams and jellies found in restaurants (or were found when we could go into restaurants) and are coated with a flavoured wax substance which will attract foxes, raccoons, and skunks. They are not hazardous to cats and dogs, however children should be warned if they see one of these well-identified packages, to just leave them alone.
