The failure of negotiations on the reform of the EU’ Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) took no one by surprise. The decisive ‘Jumbo’ trilogue‘, aimed at reaching a ‘full package deal’ on the EU’s forthcoming farming subsidies programme, turned out to be a bust.

A new study has found that the agriculture, shipping and fishing sectors are the main sources of plastic pollution in our seas.
The study was commissioned by the European network of marine NGOs and published by Galway Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT).
‘Microplastics in the marine environment: sources, impacts and recommendations’ is the work of microplastic researchers at GMIT and the report’s publication coincides with the commencement of European Green Week 2021 where the focus is on zero pollution for healthier people and planet.

The aim of the report is to provide useful information for decision-makers, stakeholders, researchers, and the general public.
Ecoweek, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting environmental sustainability, this year is celebrating its
15-year anniversary with a number of events scheduled to take place in June, August and September.
Starting on World Environment Day on
June 5, Ecoweek will hold an online panel discussion titled:
“Zero pollution for healthier people and planet”.
The event will take place as part of the
European Green Week, which this year is dedicated to the “zero pollution ambition”. It will also include discussions on the European Green Deal program, and initiatives dedicated to energy, mobility, agriculture, health and biodiversity, among others.
Speakers are expected from a number of countries including Greece, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Israel.
