A motion presented by James Maloney, a member of the Canadian Parliament, has passed unanimously to designate March as Irish Heritage Month in Canada in order to "recognize the many contributions that Canadians of Irish descent have made in building this country into what it is today."

But many of the area’s Irish pubs and other establishments still plan on celebrating next week. A year after the emergence of COVID-19 scrapped most of the Irish-themed events and parties, some pub owners are anticipating a return to some semblance of normalcy. “Peoria’s been known to have one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parties in the Midwest, and we want to keep that tradition going,” said Pat Sullivan, owner of Kelleher s Irish Pub and Eatery on the Riverfront. “But we want people to be safe; we want them back next year.”

Roisín McDonough, Chief Executive, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, commented,  “ I am delighted to help celebrate IWD and in particular the many women artists that the Arts Council supports. It’s an  opportunity to remember just what the ARTS can do, how powerful the arts are in their ability to challenge, inspire and give women a voice. And importantly, the power of the arts to bring women and communities closer together across the world.
