Dolphin in River Boyne Excites Drogheda Locals 23rd April 2021 The fin of what’s believed to be a bottlenose dolphin spotted west of Drogheda town centre on Thursday morning 22 April Credit: Boyne Fishermen Rescue and Recovery/Facebook The Irish Independent covers the excitement among the denizens of Drogheda after a dolphin swimming up the River Boyne paid an unexpected visit to the town. Reports of a dog in the water yesterday morning (Thursday 22 April) turned out to be wide of the mark when Boyne Fishermen Rescue and Recovery encountered the “medium-sized dolphin” in the River Boyne at the Upper Mell slipway, just east of the town centre and some 7km from the open sea.

Rathlin West Light Seabird Centre Will Reopen in May 24th April 2021 Puffin seabirds on Rathlin Island The Rathlin RSPB (Royal Society for Protection of Birds) has announced the Rathlin West Light Seabird Centre will re-open on Saturday 29th May in line with the NI Executive s indicative date for visitor attractions. This, of course, may be subject to review. Rathlin lies about six miles off the North Antrim coast opposite Ballycastle and is reached by the Ballycastle -Rathlin ferry. The Seabird Centre is four miles west of the Harbour on the site of the unique Upside Down lighthouse. It can be reached by private bus, bicycle or on foot.
