On Saturday, it was announced that Donegal’s John Cronin had been elected President of Athletics Ireland.
Cronin s inauguration took place at the Athletics Ireland Congress 2021 which was held Virtually.
His elevation to the top spot in Irish Athletics came exactly 47 years to the day after his first race in the colours of Glenree AC.
Speaking on Sunday Sport John Cronin said he s honoured to President of Athletics Ireland.

Cronin served as Competition Secretary for Offaly Athletics and was honoured with Life Presidency in 2020, he was also honoured by Offaly Sports Partnership for “Lifetime Contribution to Sport” in 2016.
The Donegal man was elected chair of Leinster Athletics and elected to the Board of BLE in 1998 and Team Manager for Irish Athletics team for Riga International (Latvia) in 1999.
After working for almost twenty years in athletic administration at county and provincial level John continued at National level, as a Member of Athletics Ireland Technical Committee, and Member of Athletics Ireland Competition Committee, both of which he chaired.

A MEMBER OF the Irish athletics team from last weekend’s European Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland has tested positive for Covid-19.
Athletics Ireland confirmed the news this afternoon, and that as a result, all close contacts of the of the positive case are now required to self-isolate.
“A member of the Irish Athletics team returning from the European Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland has provided a positive PCR test on the morning of 11th of March,” a statement reads.
The European Indoor Athletic Championships start for Mark English on Friday night in Poland with the heats of the 800m.
Mark has hit his top form this year as he beat his own Irish Indoor record in qualifying for the Championships with a time of 1:46.10 at the Athletic Ireland Micro Meet Event.
The Finn Valley runner who has previously won silver and bronze medals at European Indoors is due on track at around 7pm Irish time on Friday.
Mark isnât the only Donegal member of the Irish squad, Neil Martin has the important role of Covid Officer while Letterkennyâs Teresa McDaid is Ireland Team Manager.
