Complaints about factory smells and noise double in year

A total of 683 complaints were received about smells compared to 300 in 2019. April, the first full month of lockdown, saw the highest number of complaints overall, with 187 lodged. The EPA is responsible for licencing and monitoring activities at 830 factories and industrial installations across the country and it said 86pc of them attracted no complaints at all. But it added it was seriously concerned about a number of plants on its ‘national priority sites’ list for the second year in a row. The Arrow Group attracted 198 complaints about its operations in Naas, Co Kildare where its site includes Dawn Farm Foods, the Culinary Food Group, QK Coldstores and Maudlins Waste Management. Odours and noise were the main issues reported.

Limerick TD defends his non attendance at EPA oral hearing Reporter: );   ); GREEN Party TD Brian Leddin has defended the fact he did not present at the oral hearing into Irish Cement’s €10m plan for Limerick. Mr Leddin was the city’s only Dail representative who did not address the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) inquiry into the firm’s proposals for its site in Mungret. However, local Green councillor Sasa Novak – who replaced Mr Leddin upon his elevation to the Oireachtas​ – spoke, as did Claire Keating, a member of Limerick Against Pollution, who also ran for the party in February’s general election.

What wonderful changes we ve seen over the last week in Drogheda! The lifting of Level 5 restrictions and the commencement of the festive season have brought some much needed hustle and bustle to the streets of our town. Also brightening up the evenings have been some lovely new Christmas lights that have been installed along the banks of the River Boyne. Last Friday marked the opening of the Drogheda Christmas Online Festival with the release of two videos on The Drogheda Festival s Facebook page.
