Taoiseach Micheál Martin has acknowledged that housing is the biggest challenge facing the country, and said that the Government is working to produce a policy to tackle the issue of cuckoo funds buying up estates.
Mr Martin said the Government fully recognised that the current generation of young people were the most disadvantaged of all such generations when it came to buying affordable homes.
âAnything we can do in terms of housing, we are going to do because itâs the No 1 crisis facing the people, young people in particular who are in search of a new home â thatâs something that worries me a lot,â he said.

Ireland is opening up after the longest lockdown in a series of three over the past 14 months with freedom to travel anywhere in the country from Monday, May 10.
All construction work restarted on Tuesday this week (May 4), and outdoor employees like window cleaners and maintenance workers returned to work as the country slowly set about opening up.
The return to freedom from the Covid-19 pandemic will gather pace next Monday with people allowed for the first time in several months to travel beyond their own county, although unnecessary travel abroad remains banned for the time being.
